Acholi Beads Embody the Spirit of the Tribe

More than twenty years ago the Acholi Tribe fled a brutal civil war in northern Uganda and wound up in a slum just outside their capital city. The only opportunity to earn a meager living was to crush rocks with crude tools for $1 per day.Enter the fair trade company, Acholi Beads: their partnership with the Tribe has allowed these craftspeople, mostly women, to earn a professional wage making beads in their homes from recycled paper, then fashioning them into beautiful pieces of jewelry.
